چکیده
Following the publication of the article ‘‘Immune Protection Induced on Day 10 Following Administration of the 2009 A/ H1N1 Pandemic Influenza Vaccine’’, the Editors of PLoS ONE noticed that the article described findings from a clinical trial. In line with PLoS ONE’s editorial policies for clinical trials; the article should have included a trial registration number for the study and a copy of the trial protocol. The Editors followed up on this matter with the authors, who indicated that the trial had not been registered at a public registry. The Editors were also concerned about the documentation and clarifications provided by the authors in response to the request for the study protocol and details on ethical approval for the study. In the light of the concerns raised in relation to the article, the Editors contacted the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai to request an institutional investigation into the research reported in the article. The Institut Pasteur of Shanghai has now completed their institutional investigation. While the investigation has not questioned the results reported in the article, the enquiry has revealed concerns about some aspects of the study. In the light of the findings of this enquiry, the Editors issue this expression of concern to make readers aware of the following concerns in relation to this trial:

Immune Protection Induced on Day 10 Following Administration of the 2009 A/H1N1 Pandemic Influenza Vaccine
BACKGROUND The 2009 swine-origin influenza virus (S-OIV) H1N1 pandemic has caused more than 18,000 deaths worldwide. Vaccines against the 2009 A/H1N1 influenza virus are useful for preventing infection and controlling the pandemic. The kinetics of the immune response following vaccination with the 2009 A/H1N1 influenza vaccine need further investigation. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS 58 volu...
متن کاملPrior infection with classical swine H1N1 influenza viruses is associated with protective immunity to the 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus
BACKGROUND The 2009 H1N1 pandemic emerged even though seasonal H1N1 viruses have circulated for decades. Epidemiological evidence suggested that the current seasonal vaccine did not offer significant protection from the novel pandemic, and that people over the age of 50 were less susceptible to infection. OBJECTIVES In a mouse challenge study with the 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus, we evaluated pr...
متن کاملSeasonal influenza infection and live vaccine prime for a response to the 2009 pandemic H1N1 vaccine.
The robust immune response to a single dose of pandemic 2009 H1N1 vaccine suggests that a large segment of the population has been previously primed. We evaluated the effect of seasonal (s) H1N1 infection, s-trivalent inactivated vaccine (s-TIV), and trivalent s-live attenuated influenza vaccine (s-LAIV) before immunization with a pandemic live attenuated influenza vaccine (p-LAIV) in mice. We ...
متن کاملEvaluation of immune response following one dose of an AS03A-adjuvanted H1N1 2009 pandemic influenza vaccine in Japanese adults 65 years of age or older
OBJECTIVE This study assessed the immunogenicity, long-term persistence of immune response and safety of a single dose of an A/California/07/2009 H1N1 pandemic influenza vaccine adjuvanted with AS03 (α-tocopherol and squalene based oil-in-water emulsion Adjuvant System) in subjects ≥ 65 y of age (NCT01114620). RESULTS At Day 21, the HI immune response met all three European guidance criteria ...
متن کاملDetection of Seasonal Influenza H1N1 and H3N2 Viruses using RT-PCR Assay during 2009 Flu Pandemic in Golestan Province
Abstract Background and Objective: The emergence of a novel H1N1influenza A virus of animal origin with transmissibility from human to human poses pandemic concern. Current subtypes of Seasonal influenza A viruses spread in human are influenza A H1N1 influenza A H3N2 and influenza type B viruses. The aim of this study was to determine current strains of the H3N2 and new H1N1 subtypes of influe...
